Along with many smaller online services this year, both Steam and PlayStation Network have been hacked in a major way. Users details, passwords, usernames & credit card info have all been comprimised... but as a user of both gaming networks, am I worried?
Nope.
For $15 NZD a year I have my own domain that I purely use for email addresses for signing up to online accounts. Each company gets a different email address for me, but all emails get redirected to my personal mailbox. If I start getting spammed to a certain email address I can easily figure out which service it came from.
If websites store credit card info for easy purchasing, I tend to use a prepay card rather than my own bank card.
It's not an entirely foolproof plan, but it's a hell of a lot better than turning everything upside-down every time a new hacking scare arises. |
